It is my sincere pleasure to introduce myself, and to thank you for visiting my website. My name is Nataliya Yena. I'm experienced simultaneous interpreter and translator. I'm also leading a group of highly qualified conference interpreters and translators.

We offer simultaneous and consecutive interpretation. Additionally we offer translations. As specialized professionals, we offer only those languages for which we have professional qualification (degrees in interpretation and translation).

We interpret - and put together teams of conference interpreters - according to the classification of the working languages of SCIC (Directorate General for Interpretation of the European Commission).

All texts are translated by our translators into the respective native language of the translator.

As a group of interpreters and translators under the leadership of Nataliya Yena, we were established on the basis of Nataliya's 20 years of professional experience and three university degrees in the field of conference interpretation, translation and international relations. We specialize in politics, international organizations, international safety and security, military, economics, medicine, transport and public services. Our working languages are Ukrainian, Russian, German and English. The geography of our assignments reaches from the United States to Thailand.

The profession of conference interpreter has a number of specific traits. The secret behind the mastery in this profession lies in the special role of the interpreter who works as a catalyst transforming certain content from one language into another, but not only that.

The transformation, to which the interpreter is the catalyst, goes not only between languages. It reaches beyond purely linguistic level by interlinking two cultures, two different societal structures.

Thirdly, you should also not forget the necessary understanding of the subject matter that is absolutely required during interpretation. The grasp of these three components – linguistic, socio-cultural and technical – make together the master interpreter (and master translator).

As it has been shown above, it is not enough to speak a language almost at a native speaker’s level to be a master interpreter. The mastery comes with the intimate knowledge of not only languages themselves but also of the culture and social interaction patterns, and last but not least understanding of the subject matter of the source language text.

In a nutshell, the interpreter who is the master of his profession has therefore not only necessary linguistic skills but is also familiar with the modern anthropology of the source and target language’ cultures and societies, and has a clear understanding of the subject matter within his areas of specialization.

The best way to get to know certain culture is to submerge itself in it, best in form of living there for a number of years. Living in a foreign culture allows the interpreter to fathom notions and societal patterns of a particular culture in the best possible way which is important in his profession because they determine how societal phenomena are termed within that culture and hence influence their naming in the target language where such phenomena or societal patterns possibly don’t exist.

Let us look at the following example: ICE, the Inter-City Express, is the train of the Deutsche Bahn that runs predominantly in Germany. Eurostar is the train that runs only between London and Paris. There are neither ICE nor Eurostar in Ukraine. In Ukraine there are marshrutkas which exist as a social phenomenon only there. The small, ubiquitous minibuses that replace private cars and taxis in large and small cities of the country are called marshrutkas.

This simple example is however valid not only in the sphere of transport; it can be extrapolated to great many other areas of everyday life.
